Joel’s worship ministry is one where we unite God’s people and display His Wonder and Grace so that others may come to know of His saving love.

We must display His majesty with undistracting excellence so that people’s attention is not diverted from the Object of our Worship; either through a careless ministry (preparation) or excessive excellence. We must subordinate our musical preferences in worship to the wisdom of Jesus who said, “Every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old” (Mt. 13:52; Ps. 92) - Having an attitude the same as Christ - Philippians 2:1-11

Our individual worship must be God centered and focus on our relationship with Him. We experience God as we magnify Him through our affections. Ps 96, Matt 22:37

We anticipate the life transforming presence of God as we draw near to him and parallel our singing and praying to the truth of Scripture. God’s word MUST be woven through all we do in worship and will be the basis for what we do in worship. Ps 106:12; Psalm 119. Our worship of a Holy God should awaken strong and real emotions which are made clear in the light of scripture. God’s word then challenges and inspires our worship and affections towards Him.

Our weekly, corporate worship must then coincide with our individual, daily worship. Corporate worship must be authentic and earnest and never trite or superficial. Our weekly gatherings must set an example of reverence, wonder and passion toward God and draw believers into a personal encounter with God. Our worship should focus on the common good and foster a spirit of love for each other and the lost.

Over the past 20 years my experiences have given me an ability to adapt musically to different worship environments and provide leadership to those who are seeking Christ centered worship. I encourage all of us to challenge ourselves and live out the truth found in Luke 9 and 1 Peter 1 where we daily lay down our cross and pick up God’s gift of grace and walk in humility and love toward one another.

My ministry philosophy has been synthesized with a document originally published by Bethlehem Baptist Church (Minneapolis., MN) It continues to evolve through the Holy Spirits leading.
